Animal-Assisted Activities & Animal Assisted Therapy?

Atlanta Pet Partners, Inc. (APP) is a southeast Affiliate of Pet Partners®, a national organization that aims to improve human health through the assistance of trained and tested Atlanta Pet Partner teams.

APP helps to carry out Pet Partners® mission by providing a full-service program to the public in which individuals can register their animals as assisted / therapy animals and visit hospitals, nursing homes, work related trade shows, visit day care facilities and elemtary school classrooms, libraries and other facilities.

*APP volunteers are not paid, all funds go directly to support APP"s local community programs and our state outreach programs.

AAA and AAT enrichies the lives of those we visit and improves human health overall. The animal-assisted program at APP also brings about greater community acceptance of all dogs. Canines are realized for their true value to humans by taking part in the healing process of humans in a variety of different situations.

• Is my animal appropriate for Animal Assisted Activities and Animal Assisted Therapy?

• Does my animal enjoy interacting with and being touched by people?

• Is my animal confident in new environments?

• Is my animal calm around other animals?

• Have I known my animal for at least six (6) months?

• Is my animal at least one (1) year old?

• Is my animal properly vaccinated and trained for AAA and AAT visitations?

• Is my dog vaccinated for Rabies, Bordatella, and Distemper?

• Does my dog reliably respond to basic obedience cues (“sit”, “down”, and “stay”)?

• Is my dog polite and social around other dogs (does not rush at, jump on, bark at, growl at, snap at, or lunge towards other animals)?

• Is my dog easy going around people(does not jump up on people, does not bite, nip, or mouth people)?

If you answered “YES” to these questions, your dog may be ready for AAA and AAT work.
